My sister and I went to London last week for a short vacation to visit our cousin, and while we were there we met up with several UK-based Dollfie Dream owners at Hyper Japan!
I had arranged to meet up with Jezatron, GabrielVH, CookieDude_2332, Aquilla429, UiNeonSkittles, Pink_Blaise, Fransgaard and Bethykins at Hyper Japan to hang out and of course, the Dollfie Dreams came out as well!
What exactly is Hyper Japan? In my attempt to describe the event: it’s a small Japanese cultural festival + 1-Day Anime convention + Japanese Food Festival. My friends told me that it’s grown a lot but having attended massive anime conventions like Anime North, Otakon and San Diego Comic Con, HJ is very small by comparison. But what it lacked in size, it made up for with substance! What I loved about it was the abundance of Japanese tourist information, language course info, and the food hall which was almost 1:3 of the whole space, since I’m not really into shopping around dealer’s rooms anymore.
I brought Rin Tohsaka with me (for a special reason, which I’ll talk about in a later blog post) dressed in a lovely wa-loli kimino. What do you think of these new blue Twin-Snow eyes? They photograph really nicely even in low-light settings.

Aquilla429 brought her beautiful Sakuya and adorable little Mamachapp Chuu with her. Chuu made friends with pink Arpakasso!

But Sakuya kept her close-by to make sure Chuu didn’t get into too much trouble!

Bethykins brought a couple of girls with her. Here’s Chiyo –

GabrielVH brought his Lily out in this beautiful festive red and white ensemble. She looks so perfect!
My sister and I were wearing lolita and were frequently stopped for photos. Here’s Machiko in her “End of Immortal Eden” dress by Alice and the Pirates, complete with matching feather headband.
The lines for the food stalls were really long – at least a 15-30 minute wait in each line during the peak lunch hours, but there were so many awesome things to choose from: ramen, yakisoba, takoyaki, okonomiyaki, shaved ice and dorayaki – all the staples that you’d find at any Japanese festival! Several of us had yakisoba and it was served in little bamboo boats.
After hanging around, most of us went on an adventure around London. We sat at a coffee shop near Oxford Circus to chill a bit before Kai and Fransgaard joined us at Wagamama in Soho for dinner. I remembered to take a group photo this time! I felt quite conspicuous wandering around in full lolita, but I’m used to being gawked at from my cosplaying days so it didn’t really bother me.

I had a lot of fun and it was great to see old faces, and meet some new friends too. I had a fantastic time, and I hope to be able to see you all again soon!
