At the recent Dolpa in Sendai, Volks released three new optional body parts into the lineup that can be used to build a Dollfie Dream Dynamite 3 (DDdy3) body. This is a further step in their plan to release the new bodies in pieces so that you can customize your own girl from each step. I’ve handled the DDdy2 body before, and although I was attracted to the curvaceous figure and hourglass shape of the body, there were a few drawbacks that put me off getting (or making) a DDdy girl of my own. First of all, the way the thighs were designed made it difficult for them to sit properly, and they were a bit more finicky to balance when standing. However, with the release of DD Haruka Niimi earlier this year, Volks addressed these issues and solved them with the new DDdy3 body. I had previous handled T-Rho’s and PlasticFantastic’s DDdy3 girls and was quite pleased with it so decided to “upgrade” one of my girls. I was able to obtain the DDdy3 pieces and am going to share how I put the body together.
I’ve put a NSFW tag because there will be naked dolls, so proceed with your own discretion!
So here are the new DDdy3 pieces:
- DDdy3-B-01 (the “Normal” bust)
- DDdy3-W-01 (waist and hips)
- Dddy3-HL-01 (the thighs)
The DDdy3 bust piece has more vinyl in the arm hole compared to the bust pieces made for the original Dynamite body. This is what they look like from the side, but the B-02 Shapely bust for the Dynamite body can be used on the DDdy3 body also.
It’s just a matter of aesthetic – the breasts are the same size, just .. uh… “arranged” differently. On the left is the B-01 (Natural) Dynamite bust, and on the left is the B-02 (Shapely) bust, but don’t confuse this with the Shapely-L bust for the Dollfie Dream (not Dynamite) body!.
If you read my tutorial on how to assemble the Dollfie Dream Sister body, the process pretty much the same. However, this time I didn’t buy all the parts seperately – I’m actually starting with a pre-built DD3 body (this happens to be Rise Kujikawa’s body, with S-bust) and using the pieces. The side-by-side comparison of the Small bust and the Dynamite bust is quite a huge contrast! 0_0″
Here I’ve disassmbled the regular Dollfie Dream 3 body to show the components that you will need if you are building the DDdy3 body. In addition to the 3 pieces listed above, you will need:
- DDIII-A-01 / Arms (Internal Frame Included)
- DDS-BF-01 / Upper Torso Internal Frame*
- DDIII-LL-01 / Shins (Internal Frame Included)
- DDIII-FO-01 / Feet (Internal Frame Included)*
- Hands – whatever pose you like. All the DD2, DDS, DD3 hands are interchangeable. You only need one pair to complete the body.
*Note: Even though the product code for this item starts with “DDS” (indicating it’s for the Dollfie Dream Sister body), the same piece is used for DDS, DD3 and DDdy3 bodies. Since it is out of stock frequently, if it’s easier for you to get the DDS-BF-01-WH (white-skin color version), go that route because this piece will never been visible once the doll is put together. Also, Dollfie Dream girls all have the same sized feet, so feet marked for “DDS” will also work.
I find it easier to build from the bottom up, so I attached the feet to the calves and went to attach the thighs to the hip. Inside the knee area of the thighs the legs are marked L & R for easy identification. It’s pretty hard to mix these up, since the knees only go one way and the opening at the top of the thigh makes it quite obvious which way the pieces are oriented. I have a harder time figuring out which calf is left and right!
I found it easiest to heat the knee side of the thigh with a hair dryer to make the vinyl more pliable. Then push the armature from the top of the hip down to get it through the hole at the knee.
Then attach the lower leg, and gently push the armature back into the thigh. Use a hair dryer to heat the vinyl if necessary.
If for some reason you need to remove the shins (ex. you put the wrong shin onto the opposite thigh, or to treat for stain removal), remove the foot and carefully slide the vinyl “skin” piece off. It’s much easier than trying to pull out the entire shin armature from the knee again!
The DDdy3 thigh is wider than the DDS/DD3 bodies so I was able to fit a couple of fingers into the thigh piece at the top to help orient the hip socket the right direction, while pushing the calf piece in. Since the thigh is wider, the hip socket likes to move around, but try to orient it correctly before attaching the calves, because it’s difficult to turn things around once they are attached.
Next, connect the legs to the hip socket. Since the DDdy3 has wider hips, attaching the legs is actually easier than with the DDS or DD3. Just align the socket in the legs into the pegs on the hip piece. Give her a gentle squeeze to ensure the legs are on the pegs firmly, move the legs up and down and even spread them to check that the legs are attached in the hip properly. (Borrowing this photo from the DDS tutorial – it shows what the hips look like when properly attached) –
Let’s take a moment to compare the waist circumference of the regular Dollfie Dream body (left) to the DD Dynamite (right, wearing panties). It’s quite surprising how much wider the DDdy is! It’s no wonder she can fit into SD16 clothes!
The peg at the top of the hip piece is designed with a split in it – this is not a defect, so don’t worry! Since the bust and abdomen joint is higher on this body, it actually restricts some movement at the waist – even though the internal armature is designed to be very pose-able.
[From here on, the process is the same for DDS and DD3 bodies so I’m going to re-use a few photos – sorry!]
This torso frame is both the best thing Volks has ever done, and the worst >__<” It’s made interchanging the bust pieces so much easier, and improved the posing ability of the neck, but the round holes where the shoulders attach are quite fragile and have been known to crack!
Slide the internal torso frame onto the peg gently with the neck joint bent towards the back (as shown). Don’t apply too much force onto the armature, however it will slide down to the base of the waist (a gap of a few mm is ok).
Next, slide the bust piece onto the torso frame. Go slowly, and ease the neck peg through the hole at the top of the neck.
Finally, attach the arms to the body. The arms aren’t labelled L & R but it’s easy to figure out which is which by bending the elbows. The elbows only bend in one direction – forward like a real arm – so you can orient the arms that way. Push them straight into the shoulder holes. You may have to gently squeeze on the bust piece to make it align with the internal armature. Push straight – do not twist or try to force the arms.
And there you have it – one fully assmebled Dollfie Dream Dynamite 3 body! I want to show you how nicely she can pose, so here is Hinata to model. I’ve put the DDdy2 Shapely bust on her for these photos. She can sit up nicely and her legs can bend sideways at the knees. The DDdy3’s legs and arms have the full range of motion that the DD3 body has – it’s a wonderful upgrade!
Oh my my!
I hope that you this tutorial was helpful. For a while I wasn’t sure what my opinion was about Volk’s new scheme of selling the Dollfie Dream parts separately (since they are often hard to find in stock), but since many things are interchangeable I think it will make things easier for me in the long run if I need to replace a stained or broken piece. In this case, I was able to take pieces from a body I didn’t really need and turn it into a whole different body shape!

Hi!! Very interesting. I see the DDIII shins and DDIII arms work well with DDdyIII parts. But I need to know the arms and shins are exactly the same for different models as the internal frame, feet, or hands. Do you know that?
Thank you for the info!
The arms and shins on the DDS are “compatible” (i.e. they will fit together with DD3/ DDdy3 parts) but are shorter in length.
Is this what you mean?
Yes, thank you for the answer.
I wanted to know exactly that. They are compatible but not really the same, like feet, hands…
By the way, your hybrid doll is cool!
Thanks ^__^”
Although she’s not really a hybrid since Volks is marketing the DD3 body parts for use with the DDdy3 pieces. I just did things in a roundabout way! ^__~”
Hi~
Maybe you can answer a question I’ve been having about the DDdy3 bodies. From the pictures I’ve seen of the DDdy2 and the DDdy3s, it looks like the the waist of the DDdy3 is narrower than the DDdy2’s. Is this the case, or are they the same and it’s the photo angles to blame? Thanks for any help you can provide. And definite thanks for the tutorial!
What skin color is she?
Normal skin tone.
