花見 ~ Hanami 2014 – Part 2

Hanami literally means “flower viewing” and although it traditionally applies to the spring viewing of cherry blossoms (sakura), it can also apply to plum blossoms (ume) or other flowering trees in the springtime. I had hoped to visit High Park again this year, but this past winter was one of the coldest I’ve ever experienced in Toronto! As a result, the trees bloomed very late this year and the blossoms didn’t last for long.

A couple weeks ago, I went on an early morning outing to the park with AlphaZ, Machiko and LiterallyTony in the hopes of glimpsing some of the sakura blossoms.

Due to recent rain, most had already fallen off the trees, and many of the blossoms had already turned to green leaves. >_<”

Even though most of the sakura had already fallen, it was still nice to wander through the park in the early morning hours. It was very peaceful – mostly other early-bird photographers wandering about, since any families planning lunchtime picnics were still at home :3

My favourite spot is down by the water where the willow trees are.

Once the sun started coming out the lighting was very harsh and it was harder to take nice photographs >_<”

We wandered the park a little bit looking for nice spots that weren’t too sunny and found this gorgeous flowering magnolia tree! Isn’t it stunning?

There are some beautiful flowering tress in front of my house, but they were at their best last weekend while I was away at Anime North. Here are a few previously unpublished photos from last spring of Moe out in front of the house enjoying the pretty blossoms.

I was pretty bummed that we weren’t able to organize a doll meet at High Park this year, but between snow, rain, and working it was difficult to get everyone together. I’m glad that I was able to capture a few sakura photos, even if they weren’t as spectacular as last year.

I have no idea what kind of bird this is, but his orange and black colouring is really striking!

Dollfie Dream Monthly Meetup in Toronto –September 29, 2013

September was a very busy month! First of all special love ♥ and congratulations to PVCFantastic and DioptricStraw on their wedding day! We had some special guests in town to celebrate with them, and after the wedding festivities were over we had a doll meet so that TheBobness could hang out with some of our Toronto Dollfie Dream community. For this meet we tried a new venue: a lovely tea lounge in mid-town called T-Buds. I had heard lovely things about this place and they were able to accommodate our large group in their tea room, even if it was a bit cramped for all the dolls @__@”

The casual theme of the meetup was “Lolita” and it was wonderful to see everyone all dressed up!

Dollfie Dream Mini Meetup in Vancouver – August 30, 2013

On a lovely summer afternoon I met up with some DD owner friends in Vancouver for lunch. Puppy52, LightningSabre and Danielle met me at Marutama Ramen in downtown Vancouver to try their popular chicken-based broth.

This is one of the rare occasions that I didn’t bring one of my own Dollfie Dream girls with me, but instead I had Jezatron’s gorgeous Kanu with me on a little cross-Canada adventure! Here she is with Puppy52’s Ebi-chu, and LightningSabre’s army of MISAKA’s!

花見 ~ Hanami 2013 – Part 1

Hanami is the traditional Japanese custom of admiring the beauty of cherry blossoms blooming in the spring. We are fortunate in Toronto to have some beautiful Japanese sakura trees that were a gift from the citizens of Tokyo. It has been a very cold spring, so the sakura trees didn’t reach their peak bloom until early May this year! On Sunday, Kevin met up with PlasticFantastic and Sam for some early morning photos at High Park.

How to Remove & Change Eyes on an older Dollfie Dream (with video!)

Time to re-visit the topic of removing eyes from DD’s again! I’ve previously written a tutorial on this topic, and made a short video showing how I removed the eyes from DD Rise Kujikawa. I received some feedback saying that although the tutorial was helpful to show how easy it is to remove eyes out of a new doll made with the soft vinyl, older DD girls pose different challenges.

I wanted to test this out, so here is the lovely Sakura Matou to help me out!
Sakura Matou eye change
Sakura was released at Dolpa 23 in May 2010, so she’s made of the old harder vinyl. I had a nightmare of a time trying to pry her headcap off! T___T” I had to use my blow-dryer to warm up the vinyl and then apply brute force! >__<”

Rather than document with photos (since I’ve already done that previously with Hinata), I made a real-time video of me removing Sakura’s eyes. I really wasn’t sure what to expect o_0″

Welcome Home Dollfie Dream Sakura Matou!

Today a few of my girls helped me to formally welcome home the newest Dollfie Dream the family! Aerie, Serena, Lily, Rin and Médée would like to introduce Sakura Matou!

Sakura Matou Arrives!

I’m very excited to have Rin Tohsaka’s sister from Fate/Stay Night, but she is also Serena’s sister since I adopted her from my late friend D.ark. I’m very honoured to be able to give this pretty girl a loving new home.
