Exciting News for Anime North 2012!

Hello friends – it’s been a while since I’ve updated, but I’ve been waiting for the right time to share some exciting news!

Many of you know that I’ve been a member of the operational staff at Anime North’s charity maid café, Café Delish, for the past few years (no, I’m not one of the maids – sorry to disappoint!) and it sells out every year. It’s a huge time commitment from all of the amazing young ladies who volunteer, so despite many requests to expand, the café runs only from 12-6 on Saturday at the convention. Tickets sell out very fast every year, so to try to accommodate our wonderful fans who may not be able to get a ticket to a seating, there will be something very new and exciting happening this year in addition to the regular café setting. This “new addition” is planned to run the whole weekend, so if you cannot get in for a seating (which is always lots of fun!), you can still experience what makes maid café’s so popular!

More details to come, but keep your eyes on the Café Delish Facebook page for updates from our head maid, Yumi L’Amour ♥. We’ll be introducing our maids for 2012 very soon!

My next bit of news is that PlasticFantastic and I (as well as several other friends) will be going to Tokyo, Japan in early May. We plan to be at the Volks Doll Party, in addition to shopping and sight-seeing! Why am I telling you guys this? *hold that thought!*

Back in January, I was approached by the co-coordinators of Anime North’s BJD doll division – Doll North – who wanted to see if I’d be interested in hosting a Dollfie Dream panel. I was extremely excited since I really want to do something to help out the growing DD community in Toronto! Since I already have quite a bit on my plate for the convention, I asked the very knowledgeable, and super awesome PlasticFantastic if she’d be interested in this too. We had a meeting with the co-ordinators, Briknits and AgentPanda, a couple of weeks ago to discuss and plan. The panel will be on Friday of the convention (May 25, 2012), exact time to be announced later. If you are a DD owner, want to be or are just curious about these beautiful dolls, we do hope that you’ll stop by! *This is where my mentioning the Tokyo trip comes in* In addition to practical topics like DD care, maintenance, how they differ from conventional resin BJD’s, we’ll also have lots of very recent photos, videos, and first-hand experience from the Dolpa to share from our adventures in Tokyo!

Here’s my Gabrielle and PlasticFantastic’s Elle hanging out with a couple of Tinies, and a custom DD whose secret identity will be revealed soon!
Afternoon doll outing

I’m hoping that we may be able to take some time at the end of our panel to have an informal Figure.fm/ Culture Japan gathering and have a photoshoot session afterwards as well, so please bring your DD girls with you!

Unfortunately it’s all a bit of a tease, but I’ll have more details in the weeks to come!

Dollfie Dream Tea Party – February 2012

I invited a few friends over to my house today for a doll tea party. Juu-Yuki, PlasticFantastic, whitefrosty and Machiko came over and look at the feast that their dolls had! Juu-Yuki brought her lovely Sakura and Rina, PF brought Asuka, Yoko, Amber and her new HDD-06 girl, tentatively named Madeleine. Machiko brought her little resin girls Delilah and Lareine, and whitefrosty brought little Myles and Mishka.

Dollfie Dream Meetup in Toronto – February 18, 2012

This past weekend a few of the local Dollfie Dream owners got together to hang out, chat, swap items and eat cake! nkei recommended we meet at Café Princess up in North York, and it was a lovely venue for our meet! We had a nice, private room to ourselves and there was a great turn-out!

Elle & Odette Come to Visit

It was a lovely day today and I invited PlasticFantastic, Sam, T-Rho and my sister, Machiko, to come over to hang out. PlasticFantastic brought her lovely Elle and Odette with her, and Machiko brought little Delilah. It turned into a fun gathering of dolly girls!

This is just a pre-cursor to a bigger doll meet-up of local DD owners tomorrow!

Here are Elle and Odette chilling out on the couch, with my little Médée hanging out. I’m not feeling these eyes for Médée at all, but hopefully she’ll get some nice new ones tomorrow!

Gabrielle and Aerie join in on the fun on the couch too!

Sam snapped this great profile shot of Gabrielle – I love her little ducky face!

Here are some rather amusing pictures of my cats, Charlie and Bubba, that Sam caught on camera.

We had fun chatting about dolls, work, lolita fashion, kitties, planning our Tokyo adventure and grabbed some sushi takeout for dinner. It was loads of fun – and there will be more DD action tomorrow!

Mélisande & Gabrielle meet the Pygmalion Society of London

My sister and I are London, England right now, and luckily for us, our visit coincided with a get-together of the Pygmalion Society! They are the local doll collectors who meet up on the last Sunday of every month, usually organized through the Den of Angel forum. I’ve been hoping for almost a year to be able to attend one of these meets so I was very excited that my schedule allowed me to attend! I would have loved to bring a resin girl with me, but I was travelling light so I opted to bring a couple of DD girls since they are easier to transport.

Mini-meet at whitefrosty’s!

I went to visit whitefrosty and her friend KTCY today because I had a few things to pick up from a group order she placed for me a few weeks ago. Since KTCY ordered a Crobidoll B-Line doll for herself I was quite surprised how quickly the whole shipment took to arrive! I think I’ve heard too many horror stories about Soom dolls taking up to 6 months to arrives >__>”

This was the first time I’ve brought any of my resin dolls out with me, but whitefrosty really loves Alisanne so I decided I’d bring her along. I was really nervous so I took a lot of care in packing her up: I wrapped her hands in bubble wrap, put on her face-guard and put her in her pillow from Volks before putting her into my Volks doll carrier bag. There was still room, so Gabrielle jumped in too!

Here’s whitefrosty’s Kaede, KTCY’s B-Line Yuri, named Tatsuya, Alisanne and Gabrielle.

Dollfie Dream Meetup in Toronto – January 14, 2012

Yesterday a few Dollfie Dream owners met up for lunch and to show off their dolls. I’d previously attended a meetup organized on the GTA Dolls forum, but it was mostly resin owners and PlasticFantastic and I really wanted to try to organizes something for the Dollfie Dream owners. Most of us met up first at Manpuku Modern Japanese Eatery for some delicious udon and rice-bowl goodness before heading out to the food court area in Village by the Grange.

Here are some of the dishes we had: Niku Udon, Curry Vegetable Don,
Niku udon (beef) at Manpuku Curry vegetable don at Manpuku
Natto Udon, Wakame Udon,
Natto udon at Manpuku Wakame udon at Manpuku
Una-tama don (BBQ eel with egg on rice) and takoyaki
Unagi tama don at Manpuku Takoyaki

After stuffing ourselves silly we didn’t have to go far to the food court area where we quickly took over a nice area underneath the skylight to take advantage of the sun, and set up our dolls. Here are the DD & MDD girls that PlasticFantastic, Di-Chan123 and I brought with us-

Happy 2012!

Happy New Year everyone! This past year has been an amazing one, for certain. For one thing, I started collecting Dollfie Dreams and resin BJD’s! I’ve made lots of wonderful new friends all over the world that are also interested in this hobby, and had the opportunity to meet some of these wonderful people in person!

I’ve been working nonstop this holiday season, and haven’t had time to prepare something for New Years, so here is a previously unpublished photo of Mélisande at Senso-ji Temple in Tokyo. I wish all of you all the best for 2012 and may it be even better than 2011! ♥

Gabrielle goes to London for Art and Food!

My newest Dollfie Dream girl arrived a few days before Christmas, courtesy of an amazing seller and my aunt bringing her up from Los Angeles – Volks DDS Akira! She’s my first Dollfie Dream Sister doll, and I adore this body type! I like that she’s a little bit smaller than the other big DD girls (but not too much) but still has great poseability! I spent the first couple of days with her trying on lots of wigs to see which one will be “hers” and in the end I’ve decided that while she may masquerade as a blonde or brunette every so often, she will be my peach baby!

I love her adorable little smile and her big green eyes! Her smaller body also lent itself to being packed in a suitcase easily I brought her with me this past weekend to visit London, UK! She borrowed a pretty outfit from Lily, some boots from Alisanne, put on a lovely wig to coordinate and off across the Atlantic we went!

First stop was lunch at L’Atelier de Joël Robouchon with my cousin (our favourite lunch spot), and afterward we were joined by Jezatron, Cookiedude_2332 and PockyKai and we moved up to their lounge for dessert and cocktails. I stupidly forgot to charge my camera battery, so I didn’t take too many photos because I was trying to conserve the 1% battery power that I had left >__<”

Here’s the artichoke soup appetizer, and the delicious pork belly main course – and some super girly cocktails!

After lunch, my cousin went off to do her own thing, and the rest of us walked up to the British Museum because I was interested in one of their temporary exhibits. Hokusai’s Under the Wave, off Kanagawa (Kanagawa oki nami-ura), also known as “The Great Wave” on display until January 8, 2012 and I wanted to take advantage of my time in London to check out this famous wood-block print! As with most famous works of art, I’m usually struck with how small they are in real life since museum posters always make them seem huge and you can never get a sense of scale out of a book. The Great Wave was much smaller than I anticipated, but the beautiful blue colours were so vivid and striking. Here’s Gabrielle showing off the print –

Meeting up with Plastic Fantastic!

A couple of days ago Kev & I met up with another Dollfie Dream collector that lives in Toronto, PlasticFantastic and we got together to chat and eat! It was so cool to have so many lovely DD girls all in one place!

I went to visit PlasticFantastic and Sam this afternoon and I brought Moe, Mélisande and Médée along with me to visit her girls (and her kitties!) Continue reading

Doll Meetup in Toronto – Dec 4, 2011

This past Sunday I had the chance to meetup with some BJD owners from my own stomping grounds – Toronto. It’s a rare occasion that I’m not working on a weekend so when this opportunity popped up I braved the rain and took Moe-chan and little Médée out to meet some new friends.
(Dreaming El Jareth belonging to Sugar Kat (from the GTA Dolls forum), and next to him are Loki’s Mom’s OceanMoon Eun-Ryoung (in blue striped shirt) , Liliana; the second little one (in the lilac dragon hat) is a LittleFee Shiwoo, Bran; and the one on the right is a Blue Fairy Tiny Fairy Xiao, Laika)

We met up at the Village by the Grange in downtown Toronto, which has a food court area with lots of seating and there’s an area with a glass ceiling so there’s natural light which helped with taking pictures. It was funny because as a few people came back with food, then let their dolls chill out on the table and ate their food on a ledge in the corner because they didn’t want to risk getting their dolls dirty. Oh, we’re a funny bunch!

The Dollfie Dream Gathering 2011 at Volks Akihabara Showroom

I just got home from Tokyo a last night and it’s been pretty hectic unpacking and settling back in at home. I was there for 10 days with hubby, my sister and 3 friends and we had an awesome time! While I was there, Volks had the Dollfie Dream Gathering event and released lots of new DD clothing, option parts and also the renewal models of Aoi and Yukino with DDIII bodies. I couldn’t resist and adopted a Yukino doll. When I was shopping earlier in the week (and doing a bit of reconnaissance ^__~”) I saw one of the sales girls putting price tags and security stickers on some of the new outfits. I counted about 15 of each “batch” but there may have been multiple batches of each style that I didn’t see. I decided that my chances would be best at the Akihabara showroom since it’d likely have the most stock. When I passed by on Friday evening all of the new items had already been set up, but hidden behind a black curtain.

Saturday morning it was raining and gross. I had hurt my foot a couple of days before (I dropped a suitcase on my big toe…) so hubby went without me to line up at the Volks Akihabara showroom. Just to give a sense of how intense it was: the lineup began forming outside the “exit” of the shop and by the time hubby got there at 7:00am (3 hrs before the shop opened) there was already a huge line. He was about #40 in line and was lucky to be under the covered awning, but there were lots of people in the rain and by the time the shop opened the lineup went to the end of the block (where the McDonald’s is in the photo at the base of the Softmap building) and wrapped around the block. These are photos I took earlier in the week. The main entrance is on the right side of the shop, and the exit is under the red & white awning (near where the couple are walking by in the photo). People that came afterwards could be seen counting the length of the line and contemplating whether or not to join in the lineup or not.

Chibi-Aerie’s Food and Fun in London

This weekend I had another awesome meetup with DarkDollhouse, fransgaard, GabrielVH and Jezatron in London, England. This time I brought my new MDD with me, but since Medée’s head isn’t completed yet, I chibi-fied Aerie (Airy) and brought her instead!

I did a lot during the day that I want to share before I get to the meetup. First off, since the MDD body is so small, it didn’t make sense for me to lug around a big pillow-carry case (like the one my Volks SD16 came in) so I wrapped Chibi-Aerie up in a large sheet of bubble wrap, then in a t-shirt and tucked her lengthwise into my carry-on suitcase. She fits almost perfectly – I only had to bed her knees a little bit. Chibi-Aerie heard stories about her sister Moe’s trip to London so she was really excited to go herself too!

Chibi-Aerie also travelled in Executive First Class, and she got settled in right away and tried out the lay-flat bed in the pod-like seat.

But as soon as it got dark she couldn’t sleep anymore so as a special treat I let her visit the cockpit to meet the pilots. They were very curious to meet her and the First Officer was quite amused by her. Not many people get to see the inside of a cockpit nowadays so Chibi-Aerie was very lucky to get this special visit. There are so many dials and buttons! Be careful not to press anything Chibi-Aerie!

Moe-chan goes to London!

This weekend Moe came along with me to London, England and we met up with fellow Dollfie Dream owners Dark Dollhouse, GabrielVH, Jezatron and fransgaard for lunch.

I was quite concerned about how to pack her compactly and safely into my carry-on luggage but I shouldn’t have been worried at all. The best way for a Dollfie Dream to travel is in First Class! ^__~”

After getting off the plane and traveling to our hotel in London, Moe was nice and fresh – but that didn’t stop her from claiming the bed all to herself!

Moe got very excited when she spotted a double-decker red bus on the street! It’s one of those sure signs that you really are in London.

Moe got to ride on one of those buses, but she was safely packed away in my bag for transit so no pictures of that journey. However, we did take a short stop at Picadilly Circus to take a photo of the Eros Statue.
